In Oaxaca,Mexico, I learned of the reverence for artist Frida Kahlo. Her art and image are everywhere. When I saw this fabric at Cambridge Quilt Shop, I had to create a quilt as wild as Frida. I already had the three grotesque bells and my daughter-in-law found the face buttons.

Reynola Pakusich's book inspired the work. Cynthia picked the orange fabric for the circles. Button Box helped with other fabric choices. The quilt is to be a graduation gift. I tried to use symbols and words which make one's life feel fulfilled.

I have a problem throwing away even small amounts of fabric so my scraps have accumulated quite a bit. I devised the pattern using a courthouse steps block and created my first scrap quilt. It's like a trip down memory lane remembering where all the fabrics came from.
