Wall Quilt 42 x 27
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Machine Embroidered, Fused

Walking by a group at a Quilter's Connection workshop, I was struck by the imaginative circles being produced. Bought the book and made my own. They were meant to be a series of separate quilts until I noticed six of them shared common colors and characteristics. They became one....

Lunar Eclipse

Lunar Eclipse, by Florence Baturin
original.
Wall Quilt 22 x 22
Machine Pieced, Fused, Machine Quilted by Laurena McDermott

Since I love batik fabrics and am fascinated by eclipses, I challenged myself to create the sky as background for interpreting a photo. The quilt is deliberately dark to accent the rays of the sun peeking out around the moon.

Snowy Valentine's Day, by Carolyn Bell
Original Pattern, Panel by Moda.
Large Quilt 54 x 72
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Sue Ahnrud at Ponaganset Quiltery

I started making heart blocks for this quilt several years ago. It spent many years in the closet until I found it again during one of the 2015 blizzards. I modified the pattern and finished it during our many "snow days" of 2015.

Large Quilt 74 x 86
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted, Paper Pieced

Spotted this pattern by Jen Sorenson, founding member of the Boston Modern Quilters Guild, on the cover of the March, 2014 Quilty Magazine and couldn't resist the challenge of paper piecing. Can't as yet decide what makes a quilt "modern"--guess it's all the white.

Eye Poppin' Squares in Squares, by Bonnie Cohen
Pattern Name: Squarez-in-Squarez .
Wall Quilt 48 x 60
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted

Inspired by Jan Mullen, author of the "Cut-Loose Quilts" Book, I was drawn to the amazing dazzle of colors in this pattern. I loved the challenge of making a square within another square. My favorite batik stash came to the rescue for this eye popping color scheme. Put on your sunglasses for this one! It was quilted on a longarm machine by me with Laurena's assistance.

Boston Skyline in Autumn

Boston Skyline in Autumn, by Sue Colozzi
First Prize, Wall Quilts.

Wall Quilt 43.5 x 28.5
Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Fused

This version of the Boston skyline incorporates some new techniques I've been working on, including making the borders and backing more stable. I enjoy finding fabrics that resemble the actual buildings, like the blue chiffon that I think perfectly captures the look of the Prudential Center.

Coleus Up Close

Coleus Up Close, by Sue Colozzi

Wall Quilt 29 x 23
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Hand Embroidered, Fused

I wanted to take a closer look at a coleus garden and try to quilt it in a three-dimensional form. This required finding some non-traditional quilting fabrics to convey the texture and luster of the different leaves. Each leaf was made individually and then stitched to the background.
