This quilt, designed by Janice Shaw and Marita Hartshorn, was made by 17 Lexington quilters to present to the 300th Celebration of the town of Lexington. The idea came from a quilt made in 2005 by members of the Brookline, MA Senior Center designed by Miriam Sokoloff.

I made this vest in a class given by Beth Bender at Whippoorwill Station Quilt Shop in Florida. All the components were done separately with a different technique and made prior to construction with a simple vest pattern. Some of the techniques look difficult but were not. It was a fun project.

I played with the picture, and then blew it up to use the silhouette as the base for this quilt. I had seen this done before, but this was my 1st attempt at a silhouette quilt.

Thanks to great machine quilting instruction from Laurena McDermott, I finally was able to finish the quilt at Laurena's studio. Now the stars can shine amidst the Maine blueberries!

In our class with Beatriz Grayson, we had to make four quilts that used color to represent the seasons:summer, fall, winter and spring. I used a book called "Winter Trees" by Jane Kennedy for the design of the quilts.
