I made this quilt with blocks made at the �Saturday Sampler� at Fabric Place. I used the �lap quilting� technique which made it easy to manage with my sewing machine. Thanks to the Tuesday Night Quilters for their ideas and support as I worked on this project.

I took a class with Susan Raban to familiarize myself with my new machine and learn more about machine quilting. Quilting these intricate patterns seemed tedious at first. As I understood it, the process seemed miraculous. I love this pattern because it reminds me of whole cloth quilts.

The arches in this quilt were given to me by my Aunt Lennie. She received them from an elderly lady from Cleveland, Ohio. They came with no accurate patterns for the melon shapes, centers or corner squares. The quilting pattern was taken from "Helen's Mix & Match Quilting Patterns" by Helen Squire.

My daughter, niece, and I hand dyed the fabrics for an art project. I love the way the kites tip to one side or the other as though they are being tossed by the wind, and the swirling lines of quilting in the borders.
