50th Wedding Anniversary Quilt

50th Wedding Anniversary Quilt, by Ginny Leonardos
Second Prize, Large Quilts.
Pattern Name: Farmer's Wife Sampler.
Large Quilt 104 x 104
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted, paper pieced Quilted by Laurena McDermott

At first, making 111 blocks felt overwhelming, then it ended up like eating potato chips, I couldn't make just one! I worked on a difficult block then a few easy ones. Before I knew it I was done. To make it king-size, I added the hour-glass blocks to showcase each sampler block. It was made to celebrate my 50th wedding anniversary coming in 2015.

Feel Me Up..., by Phyllis Maddox

Wall Quilt 30 x 36

... but not here in front of God and everybody with white gloves.
I read an article in a quilting magazine about a group making textured quilts for visually impaired children. It sounded like a good idea so I made a few.

Clouds of Contrast

Clouds of Contrast, by Kathleen McCormick
Pattern Name: Venetian Tiles by Quilt Queen Design.
Large Quilt 78 x 80
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted

This pattern caught my eye a few years ago. The light colored fabrics were "cast-offs" from another project. The blocks are nine patches that are cut on an angle. The remaining triangles were used in the outer border. It reminds me of the evening sky, before a storm or during a sunset.

Kaleidoscopic Illusions

Kaleidoscopic Illusions, by Kathleen McCormick
Pattern Name: Marco Polo by Saginaw St. Quilt Co.
Large Quilt 65 x 84
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Laurena McDermott

A fabric collection of red and blacks caught my eye. Garabaldi Prints were produced from 1875 to 1925 and were primarily red with black printing. Of course, other fabrics needed to be added to the collection in order to make this quilt, an interpretation of a kaleidoscope pattern. I loved the geometric nature of many of the fabrics and the secondary patterns that the kaleidoscope produces.

Kaffe Fassett Tropical Sunset

Kaffe Fassett Tropical Sunset, by Kit Ryan
Pattern Name: One Star Two Star.
Large Quilt 78 x 55
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted

Basted it after working a night shift; trimmed the back and batting, and thought there was something wrong; in the evening before I left for work I realized I had not done its border. Finally added the borders, and the batting, and the backing (sigh), but it was worth it.
