Pattern Name: Sunbonnet Sue and Sam.
Large Quilt 76 x 78
Hand Pieced, Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Hand Embroidered, Tied

I found the quilt top at an antique shop and took it to the quilt museum for dating (1940's). An antique quilt collector recommended that I just frame it, back it and tie it. She felt the quilt said much with the various colors and appliqués, especially the balloon embroidery.

On the Edge of Chaos

On the Edge of Chaos, by Peggy Boning
Pattern Name: Diagonal Madness by Kaffe Fassett.
Large Quilt 99 x 99
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Laurena McDermott

At first, this quilt seems to be made of random, chaotic pieces. As you stand back and look at it you will see the three-fold symmetry and a regular pattern emerges. The quilt was originally planned to be monochromatic, but the addition of colors adjacent on the color wheel to the dominant periwinkle made the design more visually interesting.

Joy I

Joy I, by Monique Cerundolo
Original design.
Wall Quilt 12 x 15
Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Machine Embroidered

Joy I is a first of a series on emotions and a study on body movement as an expression of feelings. There is a sense of deep freedom one gets when dancing at the beach, feeling the evening breeze as the sun sets. For me, this is a pure expression of joy.

Christopher Columbus Park Along Boston Harbor

Christopher Columbus Park Along Boston Harbor, by Sue Colozzi

Wall Quilt 42.5 x 24
Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Fused

I enjoy visiting this park when I am near the harbor, and I'm always intrigued by the patterns created in the archway. I wanted to try creating those patterns in fabric which involved a lot of careful cutting! Other people visiting this park always seem very happy and relaxed, so I also wanted to show them in the quilt.

View From Memorial Drive

View From Memorial Drive, by Sue Colozzi

Wall Quilt 39 x 31
Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Fused

I never tire of looking at the Boston skyline. I've sewn several quilts depicting it, but in this one the emphasis is on the boats in the foreground. The skyline becomes a background rather than the focus of the quilt.

Bee Matrix

Bee Matrix, by Christina Crouch

Wall Quilt 20 x 48
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted

This year's Bee Challenge fabric reminded me of the number streams in the "Matrix" movie. I remembered a RSQ workshop by Jude Larzelere with strips of fabric that had the same look.
I included our 7 initials for the "7" part of the challenge.
