    Event:
Campaigns and Commemoratives: Quilts for Presidents
    Date:
    January 19 - March 24, 2012
    Description:
Until women in the United States won the right to vote in the 20th century, their political influence was expressed through their male family members, or through letter writing, peripheral political involvement or needlework. Campaigns have used textiles to promote their candidates since the early 19th century. Put these two factors together and something novel happens: either quilts are created from campaign textiles or patterns are altered to honor a president or a political party.

Campaigns and Commemoratives highlights four centuries of political textiles used in quilts to support the campaigns of everyone from President Washington to President Obama. Included are Washington's Plume, medallion quilts showcasing presidential handkerchiefs, donkeys, elephants and even some political satire. Enjoy this fascinating look at everything that is both serious and fun about our national political game.

  • Un-Tangle, The Relaxing Creativity Retreat Ogunquit, ME
    Event:
    Un-Tangle, The Relaxing Creativity Retreat
    Date:
    March 2-4, 2012
    Description:
I've had the privilege of meeting and working with author Sandy Steen Bartholomew this past year, and we've put together a real treat for you. Sandy has published several books using Zentangle techniques, and is now putting together a relaxing, 3-day playdate for you the first weekend in March. I'm very excited about this.

The Beachmere Inn in picturesque Ogunquit, Maine, overlooking the Atlantic and the Marginal Way, is the location for this retreat. The Beachmere is a very special place for Sandy. It's where she goes to write all her books. I'm almost as in love with it as she is.

The Inn is a full service resort, so if you've ever felt the need to pamper yourself and unlock your inner "creative child," this is the place. If you've ever thought about learning more about this technique from an expert in her field, this is the retreat for you.

The weekend will begin on Friday night, where we'll have an informal get together and "get to know the artist" night. This will also be the time to bring any tangled pieces you've started on - or wanted to start on. The workshops groups will start on Saturday.

The all inclusive cost for the weekend is $375 per person/double occupancy, and $565 per person single occupancy - those costs include Sandy's "Getting Started" kit.

    The Red and White Retreat
    Date:
    March 9, 10, & 11, 2012

This March, I've rented out the Henniker House Bed and Breakfast in Henniker NH for my Red and White Retreat. The dates are March 9, 10 and 11, 2012, and I'm designing a quilt just for this retreat. The pattern will be released to retreat participants in mid-January...plenty of time to decide if you want to make it scrappy or from yardage.

The Henniker House B&B is a comfortable house which has played host to several retreats, and I'm thrilled with what Innkeeper Kate has been able to put together for us. The workroom is to die for. For more information about the B&B itself, please click on this link: Henniker House B&B.
