#5 Elm Street, by Anne Risgin
Wall Quilt 28 x 24
Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Hand Beaded
A gift for my husband, David, on our tenth wedding anniversary, this quilt is to remind him of his childhood home.
Playing with Purple, by Tricia Rosenthal
Wall Quilt 50 x 58
Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Hand Quilted
The purple, red, and blue Japanese block print fabric was the genesis for the design, along with a stash of hand-appliquéd hearts looking for a home. I took a long time designing the border to make sure it set off the quilt and made it look like a completed piece.
April Showers Bring May Flowers, by Cynthia Rosner
Original design.
Wall Quilt 32 x 32
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted, Fused
This quilt was started in Quilt Camp led by Joan Loewenberg at Cambridge Quilt. I had a pile of fabrics in front of me and I randomly picked out the fabrics for the background and flowers. Fusible web was used on the flowers and the quilt was machined quilted.
Under the Stars, by Penny Sander
Third Prize, Large Quilts.
Pattern Name: Star patterns from Judy Martin's book, Variable Stars.
Large Quilt 106 x 116
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Concessa Shearer
I started these sparkling stars, which were part of Cambridge Quilts block-of-the-month series in 2006 and taken from Judy Martin's book, Knockout Blocks and Sampler Quilts. I pieced two duplicate stars each month, and added a few more after the year ended. My husbands favorite color provides the night sky background. The quilt should keep us warm during the cold months to come.
Joyous Blues, by Penny Sander
Original.
Wall Quilt 67.5 x 49.5
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted, Hand-dyed Fabrics
I took a Shibori dyeing class with Carol Ann Grotian this year, and loved the results so much that I couldnt bear to cut up any of the finished dyed pieces. This quilt makes me smile every time I see it, because I remember how much fun I had learning this process.
Bartlett Pears, by Missy Shay
Wall Quilt 34.5 x 56
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Hand Quilted, Machine Quilted, Fused
This Jayme Crow (book: Stitch and Split Appliqué) pattern was on Simply Quilts. The raw edge appliqué intrigued me. I began hand quilting the vines, then put the quilt away for a year. When I returned, I found that I had lost the handmade stencil and had to recreate it. I love how the yellow binding enhances the quilt.
Chinese Puzzle, by Missy Shay
Pattern Name: Chinese Puzzle.
Wall Quilt 45.5 x 48.5
Machine Pieced, Hand Quilted, Machine Quilted
I found this pattern in Nancy Martin's book, A Treasury of Scrap Quilts. Blue and white quilts have always appealed to me so this was my chance to make one. I hand quilted the butterflies to give texture and interest.
Orange Crush, by Nancy Soyring
Pattern Name: Orange Crush.
Large Quilt 60 x 78
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Orange Crush mystery quilt by Bonnie K. Hunter of Quiltville.com. It was great fun to play along with each step of this online mystery, and check out the world of quilter's blogs too.
Koi, by Peter Stringham
Pattern Name: Seminole.
Wall Quilt 45 x 58
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Inspired by a great fabric. I still like sewing the Seminole patterns.
Rose Garden, by Peter Stringham
Pattern Name: Modified Snail trail.
Wall Quilt 60 x 50
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Laurena McDermott
I made this quilt from fabric donated to me my friend and quiltmaker Eleanor Hare. This was my third snail trail, and I chose these colors to make roses.
Hot Stuff, by Barbara Tarrh
Pattern Name: Ricky Tims' Harmonic Convergence I.
Wall Quilt 37 x 37
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted, Some Beading
Fabric Corner's special sale was the inspiration for this quilt. The "hot" colors purchased there provided a great opportunity to experiment with Ricky Tims' asymmetrical piecing technique.
Home is Where the Heart Is, by Bee Quilt by the Tuesday Morning Bee
Original design.
Wall Quilt 58 x 61
Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Hand Embroidered, Fused
Tuesday Morning Bee Group Ladies created a square with their ideas on what makes up a home. The ladies are Gail Willet, Janice Gould, Penny Sanders, Missy Shay, Carol Brown, Billie Berents, Jean Stringham and Jeanne Funk-Gedies
Cacao Pod, Chocolate Pack, Book Cover, Story of a Cacoa Pod, by Nancy Wasserman
Original.
Wall Quilt 18 x 24
Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Painted, Transfer
This is a 4 part quilt. I chose as my subject the Cacao Pod. I had an opportunity to visit a Chocolate Plantation in Hawaii last September and really liked the shape and colors of the pod, beans, and the process to make chocolate.
Birch, by Lisa Welter
Original.
Wall Quilt 36 x 36
Hand Pieced, Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Hand Quilted, Painted
This series of four quilts studying birch trees allowed me to experiment with different techniques: innovative piecing, fabric dying, new appliqué techniques, printing on fabric, Prismacolor pencil on fabric, and the use of found objects.
Two Halves, by Lisa Welter
Wall Quilt 34.5 x 34.5
Machine Pieced, Hand Quilted
Made for my husband Ron in 2005.
My Favorite Things, by Gail Willett
Pattern Name: Orange Peel and Original design.
Large Quilt 66 x 58
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Lynn Austin
This quilt is for me!! I have always loved the Orange Peel Block and asked my Tuesday Bee to help make some of the blocks. I love the fabric I used. I will enjoy this as my own lap quilt.
Salad For My Husband, by Gail Willett
Original.
Large Quilt 48 x 84
Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Machine Appliquéd, Fused, Machine Quilted by New Pieces Quilt Shop Berkeley, CA
My husband is a Nutritional Epidemiologist and I wanted to make him a quilt that represents his work. This is an abstract salad as a tribute to his research on good foods to eat and foods that keep us healthy. It will hang in his office at Harvard.
Falling Leaves on a Tiled Walkway, by Gail Willett
Original.
Wall Quilt 51 x 60
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted by Lynn Austin
The "tiles" fabric I have had for many years and didn't want to cut. But the leaves presented the perfect design. My daughter-in-law, Ali, helped with the name.
Monkey Shines, by Martha Wishart
Pattern Name: milky way or water wheel.
Wall Quilt 60 x 60
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Concessa Shearer
This quilt was made for my son. He loves plaids. I used plaid shirts, mostly purchased from local Goodwill stores. The interlocking design reminds me of the monkeys from the old game "Barrel Full of Monkeys."
Not Quite One Thousand, by Martha Wishart
Pattern Name: thousand pyramids.
Wall Quilt 32 x 37
Machine Pieced, Hand Quilted
I started this quilt planning to make it bed sized. That would have required making well over one thousand pyramids. I soon thought better of that. Now it is a nice wall-hanging!
